Impact of Wellness Dimensions

It wasn’t until I became a certified health coach after living with chronic cancer for five years that I became aware of these dimensions and their impact on my life.

I was happy to discover this and make it essential to my health and work.

Wellness helps me to integrate a broader holistic approach to living that encompasses health and fitness. As a health coach, this is vital to my health and what I offer individuals working with me.

Being aware of the impact and significance of these dimensions on our lives is crucial to our well-being whether you’re living a healthy life, or living with a chronic illness or loss.

This discovery is responsible for changing my outlook and attitude towards life. It has a profound effect on how I am living my life.

My role as your coach is to inspire you to recognize the impact each dimension has on your life and create a plan to improve the relationships.

My life got better when I understood the powerful role these dimensions had in my life and made effort to create better relationships with them.

You too can create a well-balanced and harmonious life by recognizing and improving your relationships with these dimensions.

me this and and committed to helping individuals discover this as well.

found this out your life can improve once you become aware of the impact these dimensions have on your life and choose to improve your relationships with the ones you feel are inadequate to give your life balance and purpose.

Discovering this gave my life new meaning and a powerful source to rely on to stay strong and independent.

Attaining high-level wellness is the ultimate goal that I envision in my own pursuit of “optimal” health and wellness.

My energy is focused on using this as the “framework” for the work I do with individuals on their journey to better health and wellness.

Once I discovered the impact of these dimensions, how they could help me and other individuals get better, I was committed to make it my primary focus.

For many years, I struggled to accept my cancer and went through periods where I felt confused, depressed, and angry. I knew certain things had to change, and they did with effort and determination.

I needed to be honest with myself to understand what was realistic for me to change.

First, accepting my illness, and where I was in my life at the time. I had to let go of the struggle with myself and the delusion that the cancer in my body would go away.

Secondly, learning to manage my cancer, depending on medicine to keep me functioning and continuing to advocate for myself with my medical team is paramount to every outcome.

Wellness is instrumental in keeping me abreast of things happening around me and my role in making a difference.

Breaking down each dimension and how they impact my life.

Physical

Since an early age, I had developed a passion for being active and athletic which led to my success as a personal trainer. I was disciplined, rigorous in my habits, and dedicated to caring for myself.

I followed a healthy diet, developed my skills as a trainer, and living a “fit” life.

Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Wellness

How my life was impacted by these three dimensions:

Emotional

I knew emotionally I was exhausted and worn out from all the turmoil and strain from my illness and wanted to get better.

This was an area I felt I could improve but would require effort and willpower. I was determined to go through whatever it took to get to a better place.

I made a plan, stuck to it, and the result was excellent.

My plan to improve my emotional wellness:

would require a lot fix this. could improve n area that I could improve but would require time, commitment and effort. improvement and would be difficult. I had to try and overcome character traits that were working against me, such as: anger, defensiveness, guilt, my attitude towards others and being unforgiving with myself.

I have significantly improved with the help of a therapist, who I trust, and provides a safe environment to work through these issues.

This dimension has inflicted tremendous hurt and suffering in most people’s lives and the cause of serious setbacks, traumas, etc.

The core of Insights Coaching is to help individuals acknowledge the problematic emotions that prevent them from being motivated, energized, and enjoying life.

The Spiritual

l was already growing along spiritual lines years before I became a health and fitness professional, but my growth came in spurts.

Today, I am a member of a twelve step program that focuses on improving this dimension - and the experience continues to be impactful and a powerful source that gives me strength and hope, and keeps me connected with my higher power.

The fellowship and principles of this program supports and guides me during the worst times.

These three dimensions are the cornerstone of a life of balance and harmony. Once I realized this, I acted with effort and determination to overcame many obstacles and setbacks on my cancer journey and the results were excellent in giving me a renewed sense of awareness and connectedness.

helping me to evolve was to improve each one has transformed and empowered my lifeform the cornerstone towards achieving a life of balance, harmony, and can be achieved by anyone, inspite of their circumstances.

It is crucial to recognize which of these is out of balance in your life and create a plan of action to improve your relationship with the ones you feel you can improve.

Before my illness, I was living a very active life, dedicated to fitness, diet, and working with clients to help them improve their fitness. Wellness is now my primary focus and a dynamic and transformative change in my life.

Anyone living with a chronic illness, or have been through a difficult time, can understand the difficulties and challenges of living through hardships and adversities.

At any time in our lives, these dimensions can help us navigate our way through the good and worst times, and support us in our efforts to survive, heal, and recover - one day at a time.

clmy lifeempowering and transformation in many ways. Living with cancer is difficult and the certainties stressful and scary. Yet I manage to stay focused, find courage to move forward and take care of myself. Through my efforts, training and experience working with a diverse clientele, I’ve been fortunate to come up with a discipline and lifestyle that keeps me active, positive, and excited about life while living with my illness.

I created Insights Health Coaching to inspire hope and bring purpose to the lives of people struggling to overcome the stress and depression that resulted from their illness or loss that prevents them from living healthy.

When I discovered the significance of the wellness dimensions I set out to make it a priority to improve my relationship with each of them so that I could find balance and harmony and influence others to do the same. This has become the focus of my life’s purpose - to guide and support each person on their journey to high-level wellness by helping them to grow and evolve by being aware of the impact of the dimensions on their lives and thereby connect on a new level within these realms.

These dimensions are:

  • Physical

  • Emotional

  • Social

  • Intellectual

  • Spiritual

  • Environmental

  • (Occupational)

As a health coach living with chronic cancer, I came to realize early in my illness that I had to make major changes in order to survive. I decided to find new ways to live so I could continue to live healthy in my condition. I knew I had to embrace a more robust holistic lifestyle, cultivate better relationships, and work through the emotions I had to live with now. Little did I know then that this would become my life purpose and I was on a journey towards high-level wellness.

My wellness journey forced me to recognize areas of my life that needed improvement and were out of balance. My career for more than thirty years was personal training and fitness. I was more focused on the physical than I was on any other area of my life. While my athleticsm served me well, my life was out of balance and I was frustrated.

It was twelve years ago that I began to acknowledge my own emotional weaknesses and poor coping skills. I was using my physical prowess to compensate for the gap in my emotional sensibility. This was the creation of Insights as a technique to help myself and my clients who were struggling to make any progress. This was ironic, life-changing, and revolutionized my approach to living personally and professionally.

It took great effort and determination to work through each dimension and find areas in each one that I was lacking and could improve.

My life started to improve once I started paying attention to my relationship with others and became aware of some “character defects”. I decided to join a twelve step program and work with a psychologist to support my spiritual and emotional well-being, which is a regular part of my life. I stopped exercising compulsively, softened my “tone” and became less intimidating, and felt better about myself.

Six years ago when I decided to become a certified health coach I became more aware of the six wellness dimensions and how to use them as a framework for healthy living. The other dimensions are vital to my well-being and I continue to work on improving my relations with the social, intellectual, environmental, and (occupational) dimensions as they relate to my present condition.
